MySQL: Fad or Rising Star?

Yes, we’ve all seen it before – many, many times in our years watching the I/T industry.  Some new "killer-app" wins all the attention, gets used for a few months, then completely disappears off the radar.  Open-Source projects are just as suceptible as commercial apps too.  Is MySQL among these?
Well a Forbes Magazine article cited some big names are getting behind an OSS Database Management System (DBMS) called "MySQL", which is increasingly taking up space in server rooms alongside Oracle and MS SQL Server.  And some of those names might shock you….
Maybe it’s time for me to install this bestie somewhere and see what it can do.  (Increasingly, I’m needing another machine for non-Windows stuff again…now all I need is the cash.)
