All your base are belong to….Google?

Google wants your car listings, events | CNET News.com

There’s grwoing attention to another endeavour by Google this week with the pseudo-release of a new service: http://base.google.com.  The service is in a state of "pseudo-release" because Google has apparently taken a new approach to announcing its innovations; perriodiclaly allow public access to the site & functionality, without explaining what the service is or how to use it.

Certainly talk and speculation of what exactly this service is has dominated the blogosphere this past week.  And, of course, the inevitable anti-Microsoft hysterics prevail again – the killer app that will consign the software giant to net.history.

For my part, I prefer the convention of releasing an app, out of beta, when its ready and with an explanation of at least what its supposed to do.  But I must admit I’m taken with the success Google has experienced with this new approach…and wonder how long the fuzzy glow of the attention will last.
