Technolgy may now be able to produce brains that meet 2 of 3 criteria for “Sentience”

Well it’s not the android "Data" from Star Trek: Next Generation by any stretch of the imagination – but scientists in Japan have produced one that displays elements of self-awareness.  If true, then our civilization has 2 of the 3 elements many philosophers have cited as being necessary to qualify anything as sentient: intelligence, self-awareness and consciousness.
 That 3rd one is the tricky one too, since it’s difficult to test for.  But it’s looking like the dream of machines that interact with us as people do is growing closer and closer everyday….
