Is Google Mars Telling the Truth?

This topic sorta crosses over into the Space Exploration category a bit, but it’s about Google Mars…and I think they’re misleading people a little.
When one uses Google, one thinks of the infrmation presented (i.e. linked news stories citec, etc.) to be pretty current info. And when one clicks on the spacecraft linkes on the site, all the data returned about the rovers is really out of date.  Spirit and Opportunity have both been on Mars for over a terran year now, and they’ve moved a fair bit away from the places cited on the maps.  Consider the following images from Gusev crater, Spirit’s landing site.
However, taking a look at NASA’s JPL site, the story is very different.  Replete with both 2D,aerial and 3D images chronicling the both journey’s in extraordinary detail; so much detail in fact that it’s pretty obvious when looking at the images and seeing that Spirit is well into its exploration of the Columbia Hills to the southeast side of Gusev – well away from the centre of the crater where Google’s marker appears to point at the landing site.
So one of these things isn’t like the other, as they say.  And there’s nothing on the Google site to suggest there’s no actual tracking of Spirit’s location going on.  Google and NASA cooperated to get Google Mars togethr, so you’d think that it might not be hard to do the kind of updating necessary to track rover progress, but guess not.
Is it too much to ask?
