Debunking Vista Mythology

"Of course this is the result of all the whining and complaining about Microsoft that has become the de facto rant of the techno-dilettante and anything-but-Microsoft community alike. A chorus loud enough to capture the ear of those who don’t know any better and create the perception we need someone to look after our default security features for us; even though there’s no OS yet invented that embraces such a ridiculous philosophy."

Wow!  Ya know, it sure didn’t take long for the techno-bigots out there to start with the critiques of Vista….

Granted, these remarks likely don’t originate from someone with a great deal of experience working with Windows technology, but I’m still a little surprised to see how automatically some folks are to dismiss Windows.  I mean, I’ve used competing OSes before – some have features I admire – like Mac OS’s UI, or UNIX’s filesystem permissions management & symbolic links.  But here we are, it’s 2007 and we still see advocates of technologies based in non-Windows systems (like Sun’s Solaris or the Linux operating system) dissing Windows.  And the phenomenon never really seemed to happen in the opposite direction – which only seemed to embolden the "UNIX bigots" out there to think that somehow this validated their point of view.

I guess I’ll never really understand technology bigotry.  To me, the responsible professional assesses technology’s application based on requirements and need – not on dogma.  Where do these folks find jobs?  Are there companies out there that both have people that truly believe Windows always sucks and make money?  (I mean, surely, even Scott McNealy – the Java ‘nut’ – can’t hold this view, regardless what he might say publicly on the subject.)
